Professor Graeme Smith has been appointed Programme Leader for the Postgraduate Programmes in Theology, Imagination and Culture at Sarum College.
Prof Smith is currently Professor of Public Theology at the University of Chichester. His research interests include public theology, Christianity and culture, and Christianity, society and politics.
In this role, Prof Smith will oversee Sarum College’s thriving postgraduate programmes in Theology, Imagination and Culture (TIC) which attract a range of students from different faith traditions and offers a Postgraduate Certificate (1 year), Postgraduate Diploma (2 years), and Master of Arts (3 years).
He will also support the development of Sarum’s wider learning offer by contributing to short course programme events which explore themes related to Prof Smith’s research interests.

He brings into our ecology a wide range of interests which are all motivated by a passion for theology and the way this discipline can transform our presence and engagement in our communities and workplaces.

Prof Smith is due to be in post 1 October 2023 subject to safeguarding checks.

Professor Smith’s research interests are in the areas of public theology, Christianity and Culture, and Christianity, Society and Politics. He has written two books, the most recent is, A Short History of Secularism, edited five other volumes, and written over 20 refereed academic articles. He is currently working on a book entitled, The Christianities of Culture: Public Theology in a Post-Liberal Era.
His previous posts were at the University of Chichester, St Michael’s College, Llandaff and Cardiff University, Oxford Brookes University and Westminster College, Oxford.
He holds degrees in BA (Hons) Theology and Religious Studies; MA by Research in Theology; PhD Contemporary Ecumenical Social and Political Theology.
